After a week in the Southern Black Hills, we headed north to No Name City RV Park in Sturgis. It's right off the highway, but our GPS led us to the wrong exit and we ended up winding through a neighborhood and eventually down a long dirt road. About the time we thought we'd never find it...there it was. It's a Passport America park and we were able to get the discount rate for the entire week. Sites are fairly flat, but the pull thru sites are very close together. Laundry is expensive. Cable worked well and the pool looked fine. New owners have recently taken over and are starting to make improvements.
Sturgis is strictly a motorcycle town. Most of its income is generated from the famous motorcycle rally that's held every August. Nearly half a million bikers flock to town for the largest rally in the country. The rest of the year the population hovers at about 6600 people. There doesn't seem to be much to do besides ride motorcycles and drink beer.
Almost every establishment has a motorcycle theme and most of the restaurants are bars. We didn't spend much time in Sturgis itself, just some grocery shopping and dinner...once at the Loud American Roadhouse and once at The Knuckle Saloon...where they really do serve a knuckle sandwich!
We did try the "famous beef tips" one night and they were pretty good.
So...we can say we've been to Sturgis...but we're not bike people and probably won't include it in our next trip to the Black Hills.
