Iron Mountain Road...

When we visited Mt. Rushmore we took the long way around and drove the Iron Mountain Road from Custer State Park to Mt. Rushmore.
Iron Mountain One Lane Tunnel

It's an awesome drive, beautiful views, one lane tunnels, pigtail bridges, lots of switchbacks...seventeen miles of road and it takes an hour to drive it!

These are some of the switchbacks and Pig Tail Bridges along the way. There are two one-lane tunnels along the drive and you can see Mt. Rushmore as you exit each of them.

I wanted to drive
Needles Highway while we were there as well, but one of the one lane tunnels on that road is eight feet four inches wide and our truck is eight feet wide. We just didn't think a two inch clearance on either side was a good idea!
