The World of Outlaws Finals covers three days. The first day was qualifying and we were only there a couple of hours. Friday night we watched races and wandered around looking at the various vendors. It was the coldest of the three nights and I was freezing even through four layers of shirts under my jacket! Saturday the weather was better and we walked around the Pits before watching the races.
The food is expensive...$5 for a bottle of water, $6 for a cheeseburger, $4 for fries...and not very good, but it is part of the experience. Brown dirt is also part of the experience and I was sneezing it out for two days! So is the four abreast formation around the track part of the experience and the fire works as well. Most important is that we had fun!
Pictures from the Pits...

While in Charlotte, we also made a visit to the Social Security Office and I changed my name! Several more places still to make the name change...driver's license, bank accounts, credit cards etc. but Social Security is the big one. Wonder how long it will take me to finally get used to my new name?
Hi Guys;
ReplyDeleteWe are Bruce and Sandy from Batesville In. Saw you like sprint cars. We are headed to Pa. next week to see a couple of USAC shows. We are relative new comers to the RV world. We bought a Motor home and plan to put some miles on it.
Enjoyed your blog on the Amish country. We plan to visit there as we are staying in Gettysburg PA for the week.
If you ever get up to Indiana please gives us a shout, we would love to take you racin. (use to own sprint cars)
Hey Bruce and Sandy,
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear from you and glad you enjoyed our blog. I grew up on sprint cars in California. Owned and drove one in the early 70's otherwise crewed for a few guys. Operated a safety crew at several dirt tracks for 6 years and flagged at an asphalt track in Jacksonville, NC for 12 years. Also worked for the World of Outlaws '96 through '98. My wife is new to all of this but indulges me.
We just went to the Indy 500, what a great experience, never been before, so this was a bucket list item. My guy even won and topped off the whole weekend!
We really enjoyed the Amish country, very interesting. Glad you read our blog about the Lancaster area. It is beautiful there.
Right now we are in Shipshewana, Indiana for a week, again to visit the Amish country and look at some RV surplus places among other things.
Always enjoy meeting racing people. Would like to keep in touch for sure and take you up on your offer. After visiting this area we are headed west to California for a family event, not sure when we'll make it back this way. As I said, we would like to keep in touch, we hope you agree.
Thanks for the comment on the blog, it's always great to know people are reading it. Look forward to hearing from you.
