Redding...A Minor Mishap and Some Major Talent...

We set out Sunday April 17th for our first stop, Redding, CA, and a visit with Jack's niece. It was a pretty day and the ride up was pleasant...setting up camp, not so much.

We almost didn't get reservations up there due to something called Kool April Nights. It's a car show and apparently a big week-long event. Everyplace I called said they were booked up until my last call (naturally)...Sacramento River RV Park where we stayed on our 2014 visit. It's a nice campground with friendly staff, just a little too much shade for my taste which is why I was trying other places. No big deal, in fact with the high temps we encountered, the shade was probably a good thing. The campground is mostly permanents but they have a row or two of pull-thrus set aside for overnighters. The sites are gravel with a cement curb along each side. While we were setting up I tried to get around the truck and had to step onto the curb...my foot slipped off and smacked into a picnic table! Ouch! I've broken enough toes in the past to recognize the pain and, when swelling and discoloration set in a few hours later, there was no doubt it was broken. Great start to a road trip...not!

Our stay in Redding was short but we got in some good visiting time. Breakfast with Melisa at Black Bear Diner Monday morning. Melisa she had to work the rest of the day which provided a good opportunity to rest my foot. On Tuesday morning Melisa and Bridget came over to visit us in our RV (Bridget had to work later). Tuesday evening we went to a Spaghetti Dinner and Show that was held in conjunction with Kool April Nights. We enjoyed visiting with Melisa, Matt, Sierra and Lauren but the main attraction was Lauren's singing and dancing in the show. We have an amazingly talented niece!  She was awesome! So glad the timing of our visit allowed us to see this.

We had a great visit with everyone...and Wednesday morning we headed out to Oregon.

  1. Never have had a broken anything. And I am completely clumsy. Wishing you well and no more nasty such issues.

    1. Thanks! Spending much of my life barefoot or in flip flops probably doesn't help!
