Morro Bay...

Morro Rock - view from the beach
By march we'd been on the West Coast for several months and decided we wanted a change so we ventured south to Morro Bay. It's a fishing and tourist town right on the coast...cute shops, seafood restaurants, the Pacific ocean and a huge rock. Morro Rock is a 576 foot high volcanic plug that stands at the entrance to the harbor. It is the first in a series of volcanic plugs that stretch inland in a line called the Nine Sisters.

Morro Rock was made a Peregrine Falcon Reserve in the 1970s when they were an endangered species. Their population has increased and stabilized and they were removed from the list at the turn of the century. There are also sea lions and otters in the waters surrounding Morro Rock and we spotted quite a few. No one is allowed on the rock but you can drive out to its base and enjoy the views, which we did.

Morro Rock as seen from Frankie and Lola's
We spent a week there at the Morro Strand RV Park. It's a no-frills park only a half mile walk from the Pacific Ocean. We  encountered a few days of rain but still managed to explore Morro Bay as well as trying and enjoying several local eating spots. The Great American Fish Company and Tognazzini's Dockside Restaurant were quite good but my favorite place was Frankie and Lola's...a small breakfast spot in the harbor. The Avocado, Bacon and Cheese Scramble was delicious and the French Toast Brulee, Souffle, Flambe, although I didn't get a chance to try it, looked awesome.
