Crossing Lake Pontchartrain with New Orleans in the distance |
There's probably a lot more to New Orleans than the French Quarter, but we didn't see it. Our campground had a shuttle to the French Quarter which made visiting the Quarter easy. We might have ventured out farther afield, but the traffic, the driving and the parking is horrible and we were glad to leave the driving to someone else. The downside, of course, is that one is at the mercy of the shuttle schedule...or a very expensive cab ride.
Our View... |
We stayed at Pontchartrain Landing RV Resort. It sits on an industrial canal that leads into Lake Pontchartain and is only a few miles to the Quarter. One has to drive a horribly bumpy road to reach it, but once inside it's a nice urban park, It has RV sites, cabins, villas, a marina, boat slips, a pool, a restaurant and probably more that we didn't see. The pull-thru sites are long enough and have landscaping between them but they are extremely narrow. The back-ins seemed to be a little wider but not as long. Like everything in New Orleans, it's expensive, but they accept Passport America with no limit on days so it was affordable. We'd stay there again, but ideally, I'd love to visit New Orleans without an RV and stay in a hotel in the Quarter.
I didn't get as many photos as I would have liked but I want to visit again so next time I'll get more!
